JHS 258 HOSTS SECOND ANNUAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS DAY

Robert Field and JHS 258 Students On May 18, Partnership with Children hosted its second annual Emotional Health and Wellness Day at JHS 258 in Bedford Stuyvesant. The school's health and wellness day is dedicated to helping children at risk better cope with the emotional difficulties of daily life.

Robert Field, account executive for the Brooklyn Cyclones, offered personal stories of success and ideas about how students living in the inner city can better take care of their minds, bodies and emotional selves. Field, a graduate of the University of Hartford in Connecticut, played college baseball and is a baseball coach for youth in his community. The Cyclones, who play at KeySpan Park in Coney Island, will begin their 2004 season on June 22nd. After joining the Brooklyn sports scene in 2001, this season will be the fourth for the Brooklyn Cyclones, the class A, minor league affiliate of the New York Mets.

"The Cyclones are excited to reach out to our Brooklyn community and forge a new relationship with Partnership for Children and JHS 258," said Steve Cohen, General Manager of the Brooklyn Cyclones. "It is important for the youth of Brooklyn and New York City to see the positive impact that sports can have on their lives."

Junior High School 258 is one of the lower-performing schools and its students continue to be challenged by poverty and other family and community issues, which often prohibit them from succeeding in school.

"We are so pleased that the Cyclones are supporting Partnership with Children and participating in our programs to support the youth that we serve in JHS 258 and throughout the Borough of Brooklyn," said Michelle Sidrane, Executive Director of Partnership with Children.
