On May 4th seventh-grade students from I.S. 123 in the Bronx partnered with corporate volunteers from Transatlantic Reinsurance and took part in an interactive workshop at the Drawing Center in SoHo. Each student was paired with a volunteer, and together the student and mentor learned and talked about the surrealist art on exhibit. The highlights of the Drawing Center’s workshop were the two hands-on activities that employed techniques used by the surrealist artist whose works were on display. First, the group participated in an animated word game and then everyone created his/her own works of surrealist art where they mimicked the techniques used in the art on display. After the workshop, the students and mentors enjoyed each other’s company over a pizza dinner. The students had a terrific time, and the team from Transatlantic Reinsurance enjoyed getting to know the students and learning more about Partnership with Children!
