Interested in getting more involved, Young Professionals Committee member and American Express employee, Lisa Bowman, offered to help plan a FUNDay for 24 volunteers from American Express and 24 Partnership with Children elementary students from P.S. 316 in Prospect Heights. Each American Express volunteer was paired with a student buddy, and together they participated in one of two hands-on programs—“It’s Alive” or “A Taste of the Sea.” As part of these programs students and volunteers were able to touch marine life in the museum’s live tank and hoist a sail on the historic ship, the Peking. The day was a success on all levels; the students had a wonderful time participating in the program and bonding with the volunteers, and it was a fantastic corporate outing for the American Express employees.
