"FUNDay" PHOTOGRAPHS BRYANT PARK!

On May 3, 2005 "FUNDay Partners" participated in a Polaroid workshop at the International Center of Photography (ICP). Adjacent to Bryant Park, ICP was the most recent venue for fostering new role models for children served by Partnership with Children. This month, a group of 11 students from P.S. 111 in Queens traversed the East River into Manhattan for cultural exploration. The students and their buddies, a group of volunteers from High Water Women, met in the lobby of the International Center of Photography. After getting to know each other, the group of buddies sat through a slide show presentation to teach them about the art of the photograph. With this base of knowledge instilled in them, the "FUNDay Partners" were sent out into Bryant Park on a Polaroid treasure hunt. The treasure hunt provided the students with an opportunity for artistic expression. More importantly, the photographic task created a forum for partnership with an adult role model, a valuable experience that is often rare for many of these children. The day concluded with the partners sharing their captured memories over afternoon snacks. Physically the young students left with the products of their newfound art. Socially and emotionally the children left with much more.
